SWIG History at Texas State

- Vanessa Eckert and Lydia Bean and Lydia Bean created the SWIG organization with the assistance of Dr. Julie Tuason.
- Texas State SWIG was modeled after a group at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
- SWIG members volunteer at SWAAG Meeting, Alumni Reunion, Earth Day celebration, and host potlucks.
- First Texas State SWIG website created.
- SWIG members host a Women's Issues Panel at SWAAG, resume writing workshop, internships workshop, and dinners.
- SWIG members participate in the fall Orientation picnic, trash pick-up at the Nature Conservancy Barton Creek Habitat Preserve.
- They host grant writing, internship round-up workshops.
- SWIG members host meetings and elect new officers.
- They coordinate a camping retreat and teambuilding event at U Camp's rope course.
- They volunteer at the Austin Youth River Watch 10th Year Celebration, World Monitoring Day, local Girl Scout troops, and Alumni Reunion and Student Celebration.
- They host events with UT Geography Department and worked with at-risk students to explain the importance of education and the benefits of Geography.
- SWIG returns as an active Texas State student organization.
- They volunteer in Bobcat Build.
- SWIG members participate in Earth Day, SWIG Breakfast meeting at AAG, Ice Cream Social, and Hays-Caldwell Women's Center Valentine Heart Campaign.
- Volunteers help with Toy Wrapping for Blue Santa - San Marcos Police Station, San Marcos Sights & Sounds, Women's Shelter, and Winter Retreat.
- SWIG members volunteer with Hays-Caldwell Women's Shelter Bake Sale, Global Climate Change T-shirt Campaign for Earth Day, night out with German Exchange Students, and the San Marcos River Clean-up.
- Volunteers host donations and food drive for the Hay's Caldwell Women's Shelter and Food Bank.
- Camping trip to U Camp and hike at McKinney Falls State Park.
- SWIG members host baked goods sale at the Quad.
- SWIG members volunteer at Bobcat Build, Zilker Garden Festival, and Alumni Reunion and Student Celebration.
- They host multiple guest speakers, including Dr. Joy Adams from the AAG.
- Members select two co-advisors: Dr. Blue and Dr. Jensen.
- New Texas State SWIG website is created on Weebly.
- Officers present at the CLAG Conference in Panama City, Panama.
- Guest speakers include Dr. Jensen, Dr. Blue, and Allison Glass-Smith. Resume workshop is presented by Career Services Edin Bunch.
- SWIG members volunteer at Bobcat Build, Zilker Garden Festival, Earth Day, GSRS, and Alumni Reunion and Student Celebration.
- SWIG members donate supplies to the Hays-Caldwell Women's Shelter.
- SWIG helps girl scouts earn their Geography badge by teaching them how to geocache
